Being founded upon tradition, craft-based skills and solid experience doesn’t stop Stowers Bespoke from being one of the most refreshing, passionate and forward looking bespoke tailors on Savile Row, quite the opposite...
At a time when many are allowing the reputation of British tailoring to decline, our deeply rooted skills and values inspire us to uphold and enhance the traditions upon which the worldwide reputation of Savile Row was built. That isn't as hard as it may sound, we do two relatively simple things - we provide you with the highest levels of service and the finest hand-tailored garments. We’re proud of what we do: it’s what we thrive on.
Over 120 years’ experience
Three expert tailors lie at the heart of Stowers Bespoke: Ray Stowers, Brian Jeffrey and Brian Pusey. All time-served Savile Row veterans, they bring over 120 years’ solid experience to the business. From taking measurements and hemming a handkerchief, to making suits and dress uniforms for royalty, there are few tailoring situations they haven’t encountered. Despite their remarkable skills, knowledge and impressive customer list, they remain affable, keen to listen and happy to discuss your needs. The people at Stowers are confident in what they do and focused wholly on providing you with clothes of the finest quality, clothes that will make you look and feel great.
Unrivalled service
Our tailoring is exceptional and our levels of service match. Many of our peers adopt a subservient approach that feigns service, but that can’t form the basis of a lasting relationship. We build a rapport based on mutual understanding and trust, openness, honesty and an unfailing ability to deliver. We go out of our way to look after our customers and rarely say “no” to them. But that doesn’t make us obsequious yes-men; we genuinely want to help.
If you want us to visit you, we will. If you want to visit us but can’t make it until 7.30pm, we’ll wait for you. We’ll see you at weekends and we’ll travel to meet you. We spend a lot of time visiting customers overseas and we’re happy to travel with garments for fittings.
If you have a novel idea we’ll help you to bring it to life. If you want an unconventional cloth we’ll find it or explore the options for having it made. If that can’t be done we’ll recommend an alternative that we think you’ll like. If you have a television interview tomorrow lunchtime and you need a suit in a hurry we can offer you a ready-to-wear solution, but we’ll still take the time to fit it so that you look great and feel at ease under the spotlight.
We could list more and more examples, but you’ll have seen the common thread: we make the very best garments, we care about what we do, we care about our customers and when it comes to service, it is - without limit - all about you.
Your style, not ours
Many tailors - even some of Savile Row’s bespoke tailors - have a house style: a particular cut or detail that identifies an item of clothing as theirs. We don’t. How can we, we are bespoke tailors and a garment cannot be bespoke if it has a distinctive house style forced upon it. In our view there is only one style and that’s your own.
Whether you’ve found your style, or haven’t quite pinned it down yet, we’ll work with you to create a garment that is uniquely yours: a garment that expresses your personality and character. We’ll come to understand how you see yourself and how you want to be seen. The garment we produce may be subtle and understated, bold or unexpected, but the style it presents to the world will be yours, not ours.
Our influences
We have a tremendous flair for design and many things inform our approach. We are stalwart fans of classic and traditional styling, yet we admire the striking work of Tommy Nutter, the Row’s famously flamboyant ‘rock-n-roll’ tailor of the 60s and 70s. We see haute couture and contemporary fashion as sources of inspiration to be embraced. Military detailing can be used to embolden more traditional designs, aspects of Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian design can be combined with classic or contemporary styling to create stunning, eclectic jackets, trousers, suits and dresses.
Yet, for all the possibilities, our greatest inspiration is our craft: the actual, physical, hands-on tailoring of a fine garment. And, our greatest influence is you. Wherever your desires direct us we will ascertain your needs, combine first-class tailoring skills with exceptional materials and create garments that leave you speechless.
An international reputation for quality and service
We are delighted to have earned an international reputation for quality and service. We’ve dressed businessmen, kings and queens, princes and princesses, politicians, statesmen, presidents and discerning individuals around the world. We’ve made military uniforms and clothes worn by actors, actresses and musicians in their personal lives as well as making garments they’ve worn on stage and in the movies. Most of the people we’ve dressed have become regular, loyal customers and many have become close friends. We are particularly proud that so many of our customers recommend us to their friends, which expands our reputation further still.
Protecting the future of our craft
Beyond Ray, Brian and Brian, the Stowers team comprises a number of highly skilled cutters, under-cutters and other experienced individuals, including a dressmaker and ladieswear designer. And, we’re expanding upon this wealth of experience by training several promising young tailors. By passing on the traditional skills and values upon which we’ve built our reputation we are ensuring continuity for our customers and the continuance of the tailor’s craft. Quite simply, we’re investing in these young people so that the traditions we are proud to uphold now, live long into the future.
What next...
We hope that you will feel Stowers Bespoke are the sort of tailors you would like to work with. But, the best way to discover if we’re your sort of people is to contact us - we’d love to hear from you so that we can arrange to meet and discuss your needs. You can see some of our work, tell us a little about yourself and what you need from your tailored clothing, and we can go on from there.
